Community Service |
It's always about service. While corporate gifts are important, we believe more good things happen in the community when we roll up our sleeves and get to work. Schwab employees build homes for Habitat for Humanity, deliver meals to the homebound and help children and adults learn to read. And we walk. Boy, do we walk. We grab our friends and walk to fight AIDS, breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, leukemia and other causes our employees choose to support. To promote diversity, we hold cultural workshops, recruiting events and open houses. To link education and business, we go out to the schools and talk to the future workers of America. And yes, we do know the value of financial gifts in the 12-month period ended June 30, 1998, in-kind and cash contributions from The Charles Schwab Corporation and The Charles Schwab Corporation Foundation® totaled $3.6 million, benefitting nonprofit organizations across the country. Corporate gifts are largely employee-directed due to Schwab's generous matching program, which not only recognizes employees' financial contributions, but also matches volunteer time with dollars.
| "I am especially proud of Schwab's social conscience, their generous donations and large presence in the volunteer arena." MARSHA TROXELL, Software Engineer, San Francisco, CA
In 1998, we honored employee Edna Fulton of Capital Markets and Trading with the Charles Schwab annual Community Service Award. This award is given to the Schwab employee who best demonstrates an exceptional commitment and contribution to his or her local community. |
