Independent investment managers play a key role in Schwab's shift to full-service investing. Customers who want in-depth advice can work with an outside investment manager and still maintain their account at Schwab, while Schwab Institutional™ supports the advisors with sophisticated technology and access to premiere products and services. SchwabLink Web™ enables investment managers to quickly download account information so they can analyze portfolios and effectively guide their clients. Industry conferences and educational publications provide opportunities for professional development – over 1,100 advisors attended Impact '98™, Schwab Institutional's industry-leading conference – while new services such as our Managed Account Connection allow advisors to offer more investment choices to their clients. Operational support teams offer personalized assistance, while specialized trading desks execute large transactions quickly and efficiently. About 5,400 investment managers depend on Schwab Institutional and its 800 employees. And we depend on the advisors for a substantial portion of our business. About 30% of all customer assets at Schwab are directed by independent investment managers.

"I feel privileged to work with a company whose ethics are truly its guide and motivation."
– DOROTHEY BARTLETT, Institutional Service Group, Phoenix, AZ

"Whereas Schwab was once simply a shop for the do-it-yourself investor, today it also competes with full-service firms. Independent planners. . . changed the business."
– FORTUNE, December 21, 1998
