Diversity in the Workplace

An Inclusive Culture with No Ceilings, No Barriers, No Limits

The roots of Schwab’s commitment to diversity and inclusion can be traced back to our founding when our Chairman and CEO Charles Schwab created a company dedicated to helping make financial services more affordable, understandable and available to all investors, not just the wealthy.

Since then, diversity and inclusion have become a way of life at Schwab. We’re committed to building an environment that respects the unique differences of our employees, our clients, and the communities we serve.

We’re proud of our diversity initiatives and have won numerous awards and honors:

  • Since 2004, The Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index has awarded Schwab a "100 Percent Rating" in recognition of our policies and practices pertinent to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors.
  • ComputerWorld named Schwab among “Best Places to Work in IT” in 2006 and 2007.
  • The San Francisco Business Times named five Schwab officers among the "Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business" in 2006.
  • The Women of Color Action Network gave Schwab its Corporate Leader Award in 2004.

Diversity of our Employees

Diversity and inclusion at Schwab transcends ethnicity, race, lifestyle or any other group. Our diverse workforce is made up of individuals with different backgrounds and perspectives working together to serve our clients. We use workforce inclusion to grow and learn from each other and we embrace differing viewpoints to create a great experience for our clients. We hire the best people, help them make the most of their talents, and then work together in an atmosphere of integrity and mutual respect.

Diversity of our Clients

Schwab’s purpose is to help everyone become financially fit, regardless of income level, culture, race, lifestyle or religion. Since 1975, we have dedicated ourselves to helping make financial services more affordable, understandable and available to all investors.

Diversity of our Communities

We believe in supporting and giving back to the communities we serve and do so in a variety of ways:

  • Schwab has developed relationships with key organizations representing people of color, women and persons with disabilities.
  • We participate in conferences and career fairs, advertise in publications and sponsor many annual events and activities.
  • For the past 10 years, we have been the proud sponsor of the annual Ariel/Schwab Black Investor Survey.
