"A young woman came in the front door with the assistance of a paramedic, as she was not very steady on her feet. You could tell she had been crying. She still had the hospital bands on her arm, and she had a baby that was still in the hospital. Just knowing she had a home away from home, with a caring staff – and Schwab played a part in making the place clean and comfortable – really touched me."

This year, I saw the residents of a battered women's shelter, women brave enough to seek refuge from abuse for themselves and their children. Climb California

Twenty-two Schwab employees climbed 1,197 steps to the top floor of 555 California Street in San Francisco to benefit the American Lung Association of California.

"It was definitely intimidating standing outside in the plaza looking up at the building...I had butterflies in my stomach but so did everyone. It was the first time that I met the group and all of us had the same determination...we were going to finish it no matter how long it takes. That was a motivator for me."
