In Indianapolis, Terry Payton of Client Service & Support has been the Team Schwab captain for 12 years of participation in the Race for the Cure. "Our team grows larger each year, and this year we also saw an increased number of Schwabbies who participated by making a contribution even if they were unable to attend," she said. "I'm grateful to work for a company that believes in helping out so many wonderful causes."
In addition to veteran participants, other Schwab employees try new events. Ginny Watson of Marketing Research was a first-time Schwab cyclist in the 545-mile, San Francisco-to-Los Angeles AIDS/LifeCycle. "I'm proud to have been part of such a special and amazing week," she said. "It was definitely one of the hardest and most worthwhile things I've ever done. While you're challenged both physically and emotionally on this event, the riders and volunteer support members also have a blast."
Many "Schwabbies" have personal reasons for getting involved in fund-raising events. For Eric Ousley of Client Relationship Development in Indianapolis, the Heart Walk with his wife and daughter was a memorable family time. "We walked in memory of my Dad, who died a couple years ago," he said. "It was hard, but rewarding. We spent the entire walk sharing our favorite memories of him and talking about how to make our lives healthier." Schwab Volunteer DayAt Desert Botantical Gardens "We spent a busy day there working to create things for the many children who are lucky enough to get a field trip there. We made booklets and bracelets, chopped up pieces of cactus to create paint brushes, punched and made badges. To top off our day, we got to take a guided trip through a small part of the gardens. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn and to help our community in the process." Linda DuBois Schwab Institutional in Phoenix

At the Food Bank of the Rockies "I was amazed how easy it was to feed so many families through our simple effort as Schwabbies. Our group packaged 1,600 boxes of food for families in need. The boxes were filled with the day-to-day nutrition they need to live productive lives. It was a real blessing to be able to participate in the Food Bank of the Rockies for Volunteer Day. I can imagine more than a few smiles on the faces of those family members when they opened our boxes." J.D. Teschler Panorama Branch, Denver Fund-Raising EventsDenver MS-150 Bike Ride "Our ASSETS group hosted the first rest stop in the MS-150 bike event. We had 10 Schwab employees and one spouse who arrived at our rest stop location in Erie, Colorado, at 5 a.m. This is our 12th year supporting the MS-150 rest stop. We had a great time cheering on the riders, serving drinks and food." Elmer Rodriguez Client Services & Support, Denver

Junior Achievement Presentations "This opportunity proved to be an enriching experience for both the students and our volunteers from Schwab's Organization of Latinos. We left a piece of our hearts with these fantastic kids and great school. On a side note, a week after we were at the school, the principal called to say that during a field trip, they passed a Schwab billboard. The kids recognized the name and wanted to stop to see the sign. What a first impression!" Toni Marie Gallegos Service Strategy & Integration, Denver
