David R. Garfield

Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

David R. Garfield was appointed Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of The Charles Schwab Corporation in October 2014. 

In this role, he acts as chief legal officer of the corporation and is responsible for Compliance and Legal Services, including Legislative and Regulatory Affairs.

Prior to joining Schwab, Garfield worked 23 years in the Wells Fargo & Company Law Department.  He served as Deputy General Counsel with responsibility for litigation and commercial loan workouts for 16 years.  He began his legal career with the Denver law firm of Davis, Graham & Stubbs.

Garfield received his bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from the University of Denver and his law degree from Brigham Young University.
