Cindy Jamison: My Schwab story
By Jerilyn Soncrant on 04/23/2018
We had the opportunity to sit down with Cindy to learn about her story and how she came to be a Schwabbie.
Q: Tell us about how you came to work at Schwab.
CJ: After I graduated high school, I went straight into the military. Right out of the military I got married, started a family, and nine years ago I opened an in-home daycare service because it made more sense at that time for me to stay home with my children. Through my daycare business I watched the daughters of someone who worked for Schwab, and she encouraged me to explore openings with the firm. The first thing to run through my mind was, "No one is going to want to hire a stay-at-home mom of 20+ years." But she kept encouraging me, so I applied and received a request for a phone interview. I was so excited! I then spoke to a recruiter who was so genuine and warm, and she told me that Schwab was having an Interview Day and that I was invited. When I walked into Schwab for Interview Day, I remember thinking, "This is like Alice in Wonderland—people are really not this excited to go to work." But I was wrong—people really are excited to work at Schwab. When I left Schwab at the end of Interview Day, I had a feeling that I had the job.
Q: What do you do when you're not working?
CJ: I love to camp and fish, but at the same time, I am totally a girly-girl. I'm also an avid scrapbooker and card maker. I make cards for teammates when they pass their series 7 or 63 exams. I hand out goodie bags to my teammates on holidays and even bought RTIC cups and personalized one for each of my teammates.
Q: What do you love most about #SchwabLife?
CJ: Something that excited and surprised me about the culture at Schwab was that everyone is so friendly. I love the fact that I have a job where I can approach a manager at any level at any time and ask for help, and they show a genuine interest in my problem or accolade.
Q: What has made you successful at Schwab?
CJ: People are at the core of what has made me successful at Schwab. Some of those people include my instructors, great managers, and my teammates. Everyone is here to help each other. It drives me to be better so I, too, can help others. It's so refreshing to be surrounded by people who are willing to give you a hand.
Q: What makes you want to stay at Schwab?
CJ: The opportunity. There is so much growth and opportunity here. I enjoy learning about all the different departments and what you can do to move up. I see a future here.
