"It's a place where my voice is valued and where there are opportunities for growth and development," says Demetra Sullivan, vice president, Planning & Portfolio Group at Charles Schwab in Lone Tree, Colorado. "It's a culture that I really love."
Demetra grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and attended college at the University of Puget Sound where she studied international business. She received her master of business administration at the University of New Mexico. She had interned with the NBA's Portland Trailblazers as an undergraduate and took her first job working there in their season ticket sales group.
Demetra and her husband then moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she began her career in financial services, obtaining her investment licenses and soon earned her designation as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. She and her family later moved to Colorado when she says Schwab took a chance on her.
"Schwab gave me an opportunity to support the evolution of its Wealth Management offer in a leadership role. I was, and continue to be, so excited about the vision at Charles Schwab, I couldn't think of a better place to grow my career." Now a vice president with Schwab Private Client™, Demetra's teams enjoy working with clients to give them advice about their specific investment portfolios, and their overall financial planning needs.
"Our philosophy is to ground client relationships and the service we provide in a comprehensive financial plan," says Demetra. "That informs the investment advice we provide. We customize portfolios based on our clients' unique circumstances and needs."
Demetra says women should feel empowered to grow their careers at Schwab. "Women can and do thrive here. We find that women are especially good at developing relationships and building trust, and the financial services arena is a great place to utilize those skills."
Outside of work, Demetra and her husband enjoy spending time with their two young sons and skiing in Colorado's Rocky Mountains.
