Women in Finance: Gretchen Gardinier

"I want to be part of the solution that continues to help find equality for women," says Gretchen Gardinier, managing director of eServices at Charles Schwab. "Having seen so much change in this industry, it's really important to be engaged in the conversation. I want to see more people like me in financial services."
For the last two years, Gretchen has led a team that supports clients electronically through client chat, secure messages, and live help. She's been at Schwab for more than 17 years and has held a variety of leadership roles within the Client Services and Support Organization.
"I've been a people leader at Schwab for a long time—it's taught me a lot," says Gretchen. "As a leader I've learned that's okay to ask for help. It's okay to be vulnerable. It's okay to not have all the answers."
Gretchen has been recognized several times for her contributions to Schwab, but says that although it's nice to be acknowledged, it's seeing her teammates grow that brings the most joy. "What makes me most fulfilled is when someone who hasn't reported to me for a while stops by and tells me about the advances in their career. It makes me so proud."
Giving back to her work community is also meaningful to Gretchen. She is actively engaged in Schwab's many Employee Resource Groups and serves as a business coach for PRIDE Austin. "It's so important to try and help find opportunities to break down barriers for people," says Gretchen. "I think Schwab is really focused on helping people find a path forward."
A Texas native and graduate of Texas A&M University, Gretchen and her husband enjoy traveling with their young children and checking out all of the unique festivals and parks Austin has to offer.
