My Schwab Story: Veteran Mike Caplice

Serving in the military is a tradition in Mike Caplice’s family.  His grandfather was in the Army and served in World War II.  His dad, who also served in the Army, went to Vietnam.  And when his time came, after graduating Bentley College with a business degree in 2004, Mike Caplice entered the Army and served “one tour of duty during the second Iraq War, specifically Operation Iraqi Freedom V as an Infantry Platoon Leader.“

“Obviously, I grew up with a deep appreciation for the military. My father and grandfather did not talk much about their experiences, but they both heeded the call of our nation during times of war. It was a transformative experience for both of them, and I wanted to continue that tradition. My father then transitioned into the oil business, and I grew up abroad, mostly in South America; specifically in Venezuela and Argentina.  My mother is actually from Peru,” says Mike.  “That time in my life was very enriching."

During his service, Mike was also stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.  He was “honorably discharged” from the military with the rank of Captain and decided to move to Arizona where he earned an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University.  After graduation he launched his career in the financial services industry working for other firms before landing a position at Schwab.

“I love Schwab.  I could talk so long about it, you’d have to ask me to be quiet,” laughs Mike.  “Working at Schwab is a breath of fresh air. Our culture is collaborative. We take care of our clients. It’s just a healthy place to work and I consider myself blessed to have landed here.”

Mike works as a Financial Consultant at Schwab’s Biltmore Branch in central Phoenix.  He’s currently working on his Certified Financial Planner designation and is a member of the Military Veterans Network Employee Resource Group. Away from work he’s an avid soccer player and active in a local Peruvian organization that promotes the country’s culture.  But it’s at work where he says he’s able to support two of his strongest interests.

“Working at Schwab combines my passion for the stock market with my passion for helping people.  I get the most satisfaction out of my job by helping people make good financial decisions and watching those decisions turn into great outcomes,” remarks Mike.  “And the best thing about Schwab is our reputation. Clients enjoy doing business with us, and they refer their friends and family, because they know they will be well taken care of as well.”
