Paul Woolway: Today, it’s going to be a great event. Uplift Education is an outstanding organization. We’ve had a long-standing relationship with them.

Paul: The partnership with Uplift really benefits the communities in which we operate, the communities that we call home here in Schwab. 

We’ve got over 50 high school students, and this is an opportunity for us to work with them for today and help bridge the textbook smarts that they’ve gained through school, and hopefully we can bring to them some real-life work experience. And combined, it’s going to position them to have a little bit more self-confidence and move on to that next chapter. 

Students interact enthusiastically with each other and convene one-on-one with Schwab employee volunteers.

Daniel Gray: Career development allows students to understand more about who they are and what they want to be when they grow up. And that’s really a critical piece of just helping students move directly into those careers as they grow.

Uplift Student 1: When I grow up, I actually want to do interior designing.

Uplift Student 2: I want to be an HVAC technician business owner. 

Uplift Student 3: What I want to be when I grow up is a police officer.

Daniel: The driving force for me, it’s being able to help students that may not have had that opportunity to grow and to see something like this and really create those opportunities and spaces for them—that’s really the piece that means so much to us. 

Uplift Student 4: One thing I learned today was be fun and creative and just confident. 

Uplift Student 2: Before I came in, I felt nervous. But more into the day, now I feel like I belong, I feel happy, and I feel comfortable now. 

 

Paul: Schwab Bank is a very mission-driven organization. And at its core, our mission is to give back to our community.
