Schwab is proud to be an employer of choice for many who have served in the military and those who continue to serve. And this Memorial Day weekend Schwab will continue to honor our heroes at the Charles Schwab Challenge PGA Tour Golf Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas.
“We are all in as a firm in recognizing, celebrating and serving our veterans,” explains Brian Bowen, National Co-Chair of the Military Veteran’s employee resource group. “And this event demonstrates that this is not just lip service.”
Creating opportunities for injured veterans
The On Course Foundation helps injured and disabled veterans build confidence and self-belief by opening doors to meaningful employment opportunities in the golf industry. Participants in the program will be onsite working throughout the week, culminating with a golf skills clinic for wounded veterans at the Colonial Country Club driving range on Sunday, May 29, 2022.
Playing for their countries against all odds
Caring for our heroes
Through sponsorships, the Charles Schwab Challenge will raise enough funding to donate two homes to wounded veterans, allowing them to live the American dream of home ownership free of financial stress.
Additionally, tournament volunteers will build hundreds of care packages that will be shipped overseas to active military as a thank you for their efforts and a reminder of home.
Taking time to reflect
Continuing a tradition that started in 2019 when Schwab took over sponsorship of the tournament, there will be a previously unprecedented stop in play on Sunday for PGA Tour players and fans to take time to reflect on the individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.
The moment of silence concludes with a military flyover as a reminder of the significance of Memorial Day.
A culture of support
Schwab is proud to be consistently recognized as a military-friendly workplace. The Military Veterans Network (MVN) employee resource group is a representation of how employees come together to create a sense of community for veterans and their families.
“Schwab is committed at all levels to support our troops and first responders,” explains Russell Simmons, National co-chair of MVN. “It is great that Schwab not only sponsors incredible events, but then uses them as an opportunity to focus on those that have and continue to make our country the greatest.”
