Nigel J. Murtagh

Managing Director, Chief Risk Officer

Nigel is responsible for enterprise risk management, working with the business to identify and navigate financial, compliance, and operational risk to support sustainable growth. His responsibilities also include risk management for Charles Schwab Bank.

Nigel joined Schwab in 2000 and became chief credit officer in 2004. From 2008-2012 he was head of Fixed Income Research and in 2009, his role expanded to include leadership of Schwab's corporate risk management program. 

Before Schwab, Nigel held various roles with Bank of America, U.S. Treasury, and Washington Square Federal Credit Union, an institution he cofounded.

Nigel holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA with a focus on finance from Arizona State.
