2026 RIA & AI Research Study: Advisor AI in Action
Schwab study reveals RIA AI adoption more than doubles - but most firms still in early stages
Key findings
- AI adoption is accelerating, but mindsets vary. 63% of advisors are using AI, with their efforts unfolding at various stages. Most are still in the experimentation phase, while some are moving toward a more strategic approach. 11% are a hard “no.”
- Leadership and culture will define success. At the most successful firms, leadership sets a clear AI vision, models usage, and empowers and upscales teams.
- Data governance and security are more important than ever. As AI adoption grows, so does the need for robust data management, privacy, and compliance.
- AI's impact is most felt in administrative tasks and client communications. Advisors are starting with simple tools like note takers to improve efficiency and client experience.
