In the western corner of Texas, Schwab employs nearly 400 people at the El Paso campus, which opened in 2014. One of those hard-working Schwabbies is Lily B. who finds the firm helps her strike the right balance between career professional and pandemic parent. Meet Lily.
Question: Lily, thanks for your time. Tell us a little bit about your career at Schwab?
Lily: Happy to be here! I have been at Schwab for almost six years. It’s interesting how I found out about the firm. I was a non-traditional student at the University of El Paso, Texas, I worked full-time and was a full-time student, while raising two young children with my husband. I earned a multi-disciplinary studies degree there focusing on education and business. Shortly after graduating, I saw Schwab listed at the University’s career fair and wanted to learn more about the firm. The firm’s philosophy of seeing through clients’ eyes and my interest in wanting to make an impact in people’s lives is what made me interested in Schwab.
Question: What do you do at Schwab today?
Lily: I lead teams in El Paso and Orlando with Operational Services Account Solutions. We support account open and maintenance work for Retail Services, Advisor Services and Charles Schwab Bank.
Question: You mentioned Schwab’s mission resonates with you. What has kept you at the firm for all these years?
Lily: I like the people at Schwab – we have a true sense of community and willingness to support each other. Professionally, I like that we focus on people’s financial futures. And that includes the financial well-being of our clients, our colleagues and of ourselves.
I also think that Schwab supports a healthy work life balance. And as a mom of two kids (ages 14 and 11), that’s very important to me. I work hard, but I also have the flexibility I need to care for my family. That is especially important during the pandemic, when my two children are at home learning online.
Question: In your time at the firm, what has stood out to you the most?
Lily: We have a lot of diversity at Schwab. All my leaders have been women and that really speaks volumes to me. The firm is full of strong women leaders and I think they really set an example to all of us… that it is possible to have a successful career and grow a family.
Question: Tell me about your time away from work, what do you do for fun?
Lily: Before the pandemic, my family and I really loved to travel. But these days I am enjoying introducing my kids to the movies of the 80s and 90s, hiking, and growing my backyard garden.
