November is National Veterans and Military Families Month. At Schwab, celebrating the service of our many veteran employees is paramount. In that spirit, meet new Schwabbie and veteran - Tony M.

Question: Tony, great to meet you. You’re very new to Schwab, tell us how you joined the firm?

Tony: Good to meet you as well. Yes! I joined Schwab in late May. What’s unique about my story is that I came to the firm from USAA, but not part of Schwab’s acquisition of USAA even though I joined at almost exactly the same time as my colleagues who were part of the deal. I think me coming to Schwab was just meant to be!

Question: Wow! That is a unique story. How are you liking your time at Schwab?

Tony: Coming to Schwab has been a perfect career transition for me. I’m a part of Core Technology Solutions and work on initiatives across Schwab Technology Services. I’ve always been a big fan of Schwab, its products and services, and this environment has been a great fit for my professional goals and personal life. I’m actually in the process of moving my family from San Antonio up to Westlake.

Question: Tell me about your family?

Tony: For sure! I’m married and have two young children, a five-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son. Life is awesome right now!

Question: That’s great. You’re also a veteran? Tell me about your service.

Tony: I’m a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. I played football at the Academy and went into military intelligence after graduation. I’ve been deployed many times, to places in South America, all over the Middle East. I spent the last three years of my service in Germany. I was an active member of the service for seven years. A military recruiting firm helped me land at USAA where I spent the last 13 years and of course, now I’m a Schwabbie!

Question: Even though you’re new to the firm, you’ve found your way to our Employee Resource Group dedicated to service men and women, the Military Veterans Network (MVN). Why did you join?

Tony: Coming from USAA, I was really excited to see a celebration of military and veteran culture here at Schwab. MVN has been great as a new employee to learn the culture of the firm, make connections and understand what’s going on. That’s especially important during these times when we’re unable to get together in person and I’m grateful for the opportunity.
