Schwab’s Employee Resource Groups transition online; Continue celebrating Schwab culture

Schwab’s Employee Resource Groups get creative to keep connected virtually.

As we continue to evolve and adapt to our current virtual world, Schwab’s Employee Resource Groups are getting creative to continue celebrating culture and connectedness. Since the pandemic began, ERGs across the firm have held dozens of online events to continue to support employees and build that special Schwabbie culture.

Some events have had a business slant, such as financial-literacy seminars hosted by the Women’s Interactive Network at Schwab, talks on Schwab benefits and career fairs for internal positions. Others have been more culturally focused and celebratory, and have included talent shows, viewing of Black films hosted by the Black Professionals at Charles Schwab ERG and subsequent group discussions, and celebrations sponsored by the PRIDE ERG. In honor of PRIDE Month, the group sponsored “PRIDE in a Box” where employees received fun, PRIDE-themed gear to help celebrate our LGBTQ+ community virtually and a volunteer kit that allowed employees at home to write letters and provide supplies to LGBTQ homeless youth. It’s the true cultural spirit of these events that makes Schwab’s vast network for ERGs so special.

One of the strongest qualities of our ERG community is the connection we share with each other. Bringing together our ERG communities is a fundamental part of who we are and our ability to move our connection point online is a true testament to the commitment of employees to support diversity and inclusion at Schwab.

- Matt Gill, ERG program manager at Schwab

In July, the Military Veteran’s Network adjusted by hosting its annual Freedom-4-Miler race in Lone Tree virtually, while the GLOBE ERG, a network of international employees, sent volunteer kits to employees’ homes to help support immigrants or refugees in need. Later this summer the Schwab Parents Network will host a virtual “Schwab Kids Day” to honor and include children who are also juggling so much during these unusual and difficult times.

“I’m impressed everyday by our ERG leaders across the firm,” says Gill. “Making the pivot to online engagement was a learning curve and these awesome ERG communities did not miss a beat. Now more than ever, being part of your community is important. Joining a Schwab ERG is about connecting with your community, celebrating our diverse and inclusive cultures, and serving the people and communities around you.”
