At Schwab, we’re committed to helping our clients achieve their financial goals and dreams. We’re also dedicated to protecting the future we all share.  That’s why we are working hard to minimize the firm’s environmental footprint and support communities across the country in a sustainable way.

- Glenn Cooper, Senior Vice President, Corporate Real Estate

At the forefront of that of that effort is a focus on researching and implementing energy-saving projects, which includes the new solar field which is 2.5 megawatts AC (3.5DC) in size and consists of 9,000 solar panels.  The panels rotate automatically east to west during the day and will self-adjust to a 45-degree angle during the winter to maximize the capture of solar energy throughout the day, regardless of the season.

“Our new solar field will power our recently built data center,” remarks Cooper. “Any unused power produced will be sold back to the grid as part of our goal to offset the energy costs of some of our other corporate buildings in Texas.”

The new solar field joins Schwab’s other commitments to green initiatives at its campuses. The firm’s new facilities are designed for Gold LEED certification, which rates construction for environmental efficiencies.

When offices reopen, Schwab employees have access to recycling and other environmentally and sustainable business practices including paperless initiatives all intended to reduce, reuse, and recycle critical resources.  Plus, the company focuses on making sustainability fun and functional with unique green initiatives like the popular Schwab-branded bike-share program in Denver and Austin.

“Schwab’s environmental promise is in lockstep with the one we make to our client’s – to see through their eyes,” says Cooper.  “Our goal is to do what’s good, what’s right and what’s sustainable.”
