What a difference a month has made! Thanks to both Schwab and TDA employees across the firm and even around the globe, this year’s virtual Schwab Volunteer Month was once again able to provide direct support to projects in our communities.

More than 3,600 employees participated in 320 service projects which equaled nearly 6,000 volunteer service hours valued at roughly $165,000.  The volunteer opportunities ranged from teaching financial literacy, to reading to children, to hosting virtual trivia contests.

In Westlake, Texas, Patrick G., helped recruit volunteers to lead virtual bingo events for Special Olympics athletes in his area.

“I am an active Special Olympics volunteer,” remarked Patrick.  “I wanted to stay engaged during the pandemic. The virtual bingo is an important way to engage these kids who are missing their regular interactions.  And it’s just so much fun.  Both volunteers and athletes came back for multiple sessions because everyone was just enjoying the community and engagement."

In Richfield, Ohio, Katie K. and Beth C. volunteered with the local Big Brothers and Sisters organization to teach financial literacy and the importance of budgeting.

“I am passionate about financial education,” said Katie.  “All young people, regardless of background, should have opportunities to learn the skills needed to become financially secure.  I am grateful that Schwab champions this cause and gives us an opportunity to work with teenagers in our community.”

“I volunteer to help make a positive impact in someone’s life,” said Beth.  “As the teacher, I get such a rewarding feeling when the students grasp the information that we’re covering.  And the students get such a sense of accomplishment as well.  These financial literacy skills matter to their futures.”

In celebration of our successful Schwab Volunteer Month, Charles Schwab Foundation is making more than $300,000 in grants to our participating nonprofit partners.
